Pop Mechanics: 24-Pounder Cannon

Fusion 360 CAD 3D Modeling

This model came from a set of vintage cannon plans I found in an old Popular Mechanics book. It turned into an early but memorable Fusion 360 exercise and helped shape how I approached mechanical forms in CAD.

Why this project mattered

I had just started a summer Fusion 360 course and was eager for any real reference set I could model from. A massive ship cannon turned out to be a perfect mix of ambition and clarity: enough complexity to teach me something, but structured enough to stay approachable.

What it taught me

Even though the original plans assumed different fabrication methods, translating them into CAD forced me to think carefully about proportions, construction logic, and how to break a large form into manageable components.
